Tactical Influence: How I Countered an Insurgency with Words

As an Infantry Platoon Leader in one of the most dangerous locations in Iraq, I was trying to figure out how to get local nationals to help me versus helping the insurgents.

Using a speech written by a billionaire as inspiration and The NY Times best-selling book, Influence, I opted out of traditional Army guidance to develop my own script and checklist to connect with the local populace. Guess what? It worked!

For decades I have been in the company of some of the greatest military leaders and have been a student of watching and implementing their greatest strengths and learning just as much (if not more) from the bad ones!

The lessons I used in Iraq were taken right from the playbook of one of the best sales training organizations in the country. Learn from my story how you can apply to yours.

A truly fun and amazing story of someone that is nothing special having to overcome daily attacks by rifle, rocket, mortar, and IED attacks and instead of fighting with force, learned the soft skills necessary to counter an insurgency in short order.

Why I Wrote Tactical Influence:

“Only a fool learns from his own mistakes. The wise man learns from the mistakes of others.”
